Pratical guide to our repair policy

At Outils Pierre Berger, we are committed to providing reliable tool repair services. In this article, we outline our three-step repair process so you know exactly what to expect when entrusting your tools to our team of experts.

1. Evaluation: what happens ?

Our front counter team will be happy to guide you through the repair process for your tools.

When you drop off your work tools at the parts and repair counter, a deposit of $34.49 or $57.49 will be required. This amount will either be deducted from the total cost of the repair or cover the submission fee. This measure ensures that our technicians can efficiently evaluate and repair your tool!

To assess the extent of the repair, dysfunctional parts, or any other operational issues, our team of technicians must, in most cases, disassemble the tool. When you receive the quote for repairing your tool, it is crucial to note that if it is declined, the tool opened by our team will not be reassembled. The same goes if we find that the repair is not worthwhile or if it is irreparable.

The decision to return the tool as it is can be motivated by several factors:

  • Our team may discover damaged parts that make it impossible to reassemble the tool.
  • This can make it easier to recover parts for your other projects or for your other tools.
  • The time invested in reassembly would increase your estimation fees.

Please note that it is always possible to reassemble the tool. If you wish to do so, please inquire with our clerk about the associated costs.

2. Process: is it worth it? That's the question!

We understand that you may question the value of repairing a tool rather than buying a new one.

In a world where technology is rapidly evolving and new products are constantly being introduced to the market, it is legitimate to wonder if it is still worthwhile to repair tools rather than replace them with new models.

Here are some questions to consider:

  • The cost of repair compared to the purchase price. We have implemented a simple policy: if the cost of repair is less than 30% of the value of an equivalent new tool, the repair will be carried out without the need for prior submission. This simple approach ensures a quick and informed decision-making process for our clients.
  • Durability and quality. High-quality tools are often designed to last, which can make repair more attractive. If you own a premium tool that only needs a few adjustments or a change of parts to function properly again, repair may be a viable option.
  • Environmental impact. Repairing tools can also be beneficial for the environment by reducing the amount of waste generated.
  • On-site needs. If you urgently need a specific tool for a particular project, it may be more convenient to buy a new one rather than wait for the repair of the existing tool. However, if you have time and the repair can be done quickly, it may be a more economical solution.

The timeframes vary widely but are approximately 2 weeks before technicians assess the tool and depending on the nature of the repair, 1 to 4 weeks thereafter. We hold many parts in inventory, but some must be ordered. This can affect the timeline.

Whether you choose to repair your existing tools or buy new ones, the important thing is to ensure that you have the tools you need to successfully complete your projects.

3. Retrieve: your tool ready to build your projects again!

Once your tool repair is completed and you have been informed, a 30-day period is allowed for tool retrieval. This period ensures that you have enough time to arrange for the collection of your repaired tool while avoiding unnecessary clutter in our storage space.
