Features:
The 3M Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane is an air-, moisture-, and water-resistant film with a high-tack acrylic adhesive. It reduces air leakage and uncontrolled airflow from the building envelope, prevents moisture infiltration, and helps improve indoor air quality. It does not require primer on most building surfaces.
The 3M Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane is a film that is resistant to air, moisture, water, and vapor. It consists of a high-tack acrylic adhesive on a multilayer elastomeric film that self-seals around screws, nails, and staples for additional moisture protection, and it meets ASTM D1970 before and after thermal cycling. The 3M Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane is compatible with a wide range of common sealant products, including synthetic rubber, butyl, polyurethane, silicone, and hybrid sealants with silane finish.
The adhesive bonds well to common building substrates including concrete, concrete blocks, anodized aluminum, galvanized metal, plywood, extruded polystyrene, and most exterior gypsum panels. This allows for primer-free application using light rollers and up to 40% faster installation* compared to traditional air barriers that require primer. The membrane is slightly translucent, providing a clean appearance while allowing sufficient visibility to locate fasteners in the underlying sheathing, reducing the risk of missed wall studs by the next tradesperson. This product can be applied at surface temperatures from -18 °C (0 °F) to 66 °C (150 °F), has a service temperature range of -40 °C (-40 °F) to 116 °C (240 °F), and can withstand up to 12 months of direct UV exposure. The 3M Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane has been evaluated by the Air Barrier Association of America. * Compared to traditional primer applied on air barriers. Independent Observation and White Paper by Lee Durston, Director of Building Science, and Dani Ittner, Building Envelope Architect, BCRA Inc., September 2012.
