Cold and harsh winters are sometimes to be expected in Quebec. And despite the weather, some people must brave the elements because they work outdoors.
You need to be well outfitted to keep your body warm and avoid frostbite. If you must spend many hours outside for work or leisure in winter, a heated jacket is an ideal garment to keep from getting cold.
How does a heating jacket work?
If you decide to buy a heating jacket, it's very simple to operate.
Electrically heated jackets have elements integrated into the coat's fabric. Often, these elements are located on the torso, on the back and in the pockets to warm hands. A lithium battery plugged into the coat is used to heat the elements.
Once the battery – often located in a back pocket – is plugged into your coat, all you need to do is press a button to operate your heated jacket. Most models offer three intensities so that you can set the heat generated by your jacket based on the outside temperature. On some jacket models, an additional button allows the pockets to be operated separately from the rest of the coat.
The battery lasts roughly six to eight hours when you set your heating jacket to low. The battery only takes 30 minutes to recharge.
How much does a heating jacket cost?
Several major tool manufacturers offer battery-powered jackets to their customers, including Milwaukee, Bosch and Makita. As there are several models, prices vary from brand to brand.
Typically, you can expect to pay between $100 and $400 for a heating jacket. This price includes the battery to heat the coat.
